Remake: Icelandic sweater

My husband got a hand knitted traditional icelandic sweater when he was on Iceland for over 15 years ago. Unfortunately, the sweater was too big, and he has never worn it!

As a part of a new outfit I’m making for him, I will remake his Icelandic sweater!

The original sweater has a nice pattern. It is knitted with an unspun yarn, could be Plötulopi.

Now the sweater is no more!

I have a book about Icelandic sweaters, and I’ve found a pattern which I hope will work with my colors.

Now, back to work!

Working on: Thread Theory – Jutland Pants

For the first time I’m sewing for my husband! He has been asking me several times to mend a pair of trousers, but I never find the time for that. To compensate him, I’m making him a new pair of trousers. I’ve had my eyes on the patterns from Thread Theory for some time, and I decided to try their Jutland Pants.

I really tried to get the size right, I measured my husband, his favorite pair of pants, the pattern, and yet I had to do a lot of changes before I could get started. I don’t think there are any problems with the pattern; I believe that the intended fit of the Jutland pants differs from my husband’s preferences.

I find it quite intimidating, sewing for my husband. I don’t want him to feel that he is wearing anything less than a perfect pair of pants. This makes the entire process really SLOW! Now, I know that these first pair of Jutlands wont be as perfect as I would like, but I have to be realistic and accept what I can make during those few hours of sewing I’ve got.

For now I'll share some photos of the process so far. More to come!

I machine basted the pants to get the fit right. Then there were a couple of nights of unpicking!

I tried three different methods of attaching the zipper.

Polka dot pockets =)

I was a bit nervous about topstitching the thick fabric, but my old machine is doing a great job!

A cap to go with the accordion neck

The boys wear their Pickles neck warmers every day!

In the pattern from Pickles there is a really cute cap, but I tried that model before on the older boy, and he didn’t like it. I made my own pattern, it turned out to a wonderful one size beanie, it fits everyone in the family except our one year old girl!

Pickles Accordion kit, the best neck warmer!

I’ve had my eyes on the Accordion kit from Pickles for several years. Finally I decided to buy it as a gift to myself, and the kids of course!

I can not praise it enough! I use these neck warmers underneath the boys’ wool sweaters, and it works wonders!

I bought the pattern and yarn at Pickles

Three more Ottobre starmen

The boys have got new pants:

I had enough fabric to make a pair for their little cousin as well:

The baby pants are also from an Ottobre pattern. I have some embroidery yarn at home, so I hand stitched a pink hart on one leg. Quite cute for a baby girl, and a perfect Christmast gift. I also attached a loop at the back of the pants as a guide when dressing the girl.

New Star Man trousers

I made a new pair of sweatshirt pants the other night!

I used the Ottobre Design pattern Star Man as a base and added knee pads and a ton of top stitching.

I also added back pockets. They are set a bit too low, but they are mostly there for a decorative purpose.

I remembered that I have a wash away glue stick, and it was a great help when attaching the pocket!

Ottobre design Starman & Be cool

I made a pair of trousers and a tee for my oldest son the other night!

The patterns are Starman (trousers) and Be Cool (tee) from Ottobre Design. I’m very happy with the fit. The kid is 4 years old, and I made size 110.

I stayed up late with this project. When I attached the neck band, I got the seam allowance on the right side. However, I simply stitched it down, and  I’m quite satisfied with the result.
